The Power of Word of Mouth

In a NY Time article about publishers giving away free ebooks for the Kindle, this quote says it all about the power of word of mouth marketing:

“Most people purchase stuff because somebody has recommended the title,” said Steve Sammons, executive vice president for consumer engagement at Zondervan.

I think it is safe to replace the word “title” at the end of the sentence with the word “stuff”.
