Meet The New YouTube: Less Clutter, Easier Search, And No More Stars

by SteveBayle on January 21, 2010

According to TechCrunch:

YouTube has ditched the five star rating system it has employed for years in favor of a binary “Love It” or “Thumbs Down” system. The company has beentalking about how useless its rating system is for some time now, so the move doesn’t come as a surprise. YouTube says that any rating your video currently has in the old system will somehow be transitioned to the new one, though the details haven’t been worked out.

It will be interesting to see if YouTube’s change from the “standard” five stars system to a simple binary Thumbs Up or Down rating system gets emulated by other sites, especially those that rate products rather than videos or services.
