The new systems integration

Back in the old days of client/server computing and desktop software we called bringing together disparate computing elements into a functioning whole systems integration.

Today open source, APIs, RSS, and other Web technologies now make possible a new generation of systems integration.

Mary Meeker of Morgan Stanley says that unified platforms are better: The most successful platforms unify services like messaging, status updates, multimedia, and location under one application.

Eric Schmidt of Google says that the best software will integrate the apps on the smartphone with software services in the cloud.

Our plan is based on both tenets.
