The last link in the chain for consumers using their mobile phones for in-store shopping is payment. While outside the US NFC (near field communications) capabilities enable this, until the advent of Square, no matter how much help your smart phone has been in helping you make a buying decision, you still had to stand in line with every other shopper to pay for your purchase.
