NeoMedia Barcode Scanning App Gets Pre-Loaded

by SteveBayle on December 1, 2009

Interesting news post from Mobile Marketing Watch that Sony Ericsson will be distributing phones with the Neomedia bar code scanning app pre-loaded in the first 6 months of 2010.

Of course, as mobile applications developers, we’d like nothing better than to see bar code scanning built into the OS of every smart phone, just the way GPS has come to be standard smart phone capability.

Back in the old days of desktop software development, from whence I come, we used to distinguish between applications and systems programmers. I think that distinction is still true, although with open software and extensible operating systems, the line is blurring which is a good thing.
