Good overview of social shopping sites

Social Shopping: Putting the Emotion Back in E-Commerce on ReadWriteWeb has a good overview of social shopping, what it is and examples of several sites, including screenshots and descriptions of their features.

Here’s a pretty good definition of social shopping:

Social shopping … is .. like “friend-filtered social search.”

In social shopping, you see recommendations and reviews that your friends have shared. You see items that your friends have purchased or brands that your friends have shopped with.

However, guest author Brynn Evans concludes:

Based on most of the services I’ve seen to date, including RunToShop, the implementation and user experience around social shopping still has a long way to go. In the meantime, keep this in mind the next time you’re shopping for the right social shopping service: will it provide the emotional spark you need?

Do you agree with Patricia Mejia whom he quotes as saying: “I want to be inspired, intrigued and entertained when I shop online.”?

What about when you shop in a store?
