Consumers have the best ideas!

The primary reason we want to make our product development process as open as possible is that users have the best idea on how to improve products (not necessarily the best ideas on what products they want or need, however).

A great example of this is the Ad Age Digital article about Ikea putting their catalog on the iPhone. Basically an old media approach to a new channel – typical. But wisely they did ask for user feedback via Twitter and they got some good ideas.

So far, tweeters appending the hashtag #ikeaappideas have suggested GPS navigation store maps, in-app commerce, info on new food menus at stores and augmented reality to put furniture in users’ homes.
